Steps

Intimately convinced by the intelligence of ancestral know-how, Grégoire de Lafforest and Jérémie du Chaffaut traveled the West to meet foresters, sailors and marine carpenters. A quest to highlight the cultural heritage and artisanal sensitivity of Grégoire's native lands.

In this research, chestnut wood, rope, sandstone, slate emerged: natural, raw materials that evoke the essence of Atlantic landscapes. A 100% French resource, transformed mainly in Brittany, for an unequivocally sustainable and militant approach.

Within the KER collection, chestnut and rope come together to convey the Armor Argoat spirit – between land and sea – inspired by marine carpentry. Handcrafted, Ker furniture is the result of exceptional know-how.

At the center of the KER approach, the preservation and promotion of the knowledge of master craftsmen. The house revisits the manufacturing methods of yesteryear for reinvented shapes and a perfect balance between preserved heritage and modern design.

  • Filming

This craftsman makes all the legs, backrests and stool seats for us as well as our large solid chestnut dish. In his hands, to sculpt wood, old machines, almost a century old, as well as digital mechanics.

  • Braiding

This workshop welcomes disabled people who weave rope onto the back of KER seats. People of great human quality to whom we have transmitted the know-how around the rope and with whom we have built a relationship of trust.

  • Assembly

Supported by his team of six craftsmen, he is the focal point for seat manufacturing. The turner's parts and the files woven by ESAT are assembled by him in his workshop.

  • Ceramic

In this traditional pottery workshop – whose enamels are made from locally sourced minerals – the “Breton bowl”-inspired eared vases from the collection emerge from the sandstone.

  • Slate

Extracted from the family quarry, the slate is transformed into slab to form the table tops in the collection. It is one of the last French quarries to be able to extract large formats. A French raw material, hoping for the upcoming reopening of a slate quarry in Brittany.

  • Rope

This rope factory, one of the oldest in France, provides us with the rot-proof material necessary for the production of braided backrests.

Behind the apparent simplicity of the design lies a constant search for innovation. Incorporating advanced techniques into the creative process, each new design is worked down to the smallest detail. The materials, noble and natural, provide a feeling of natural comfort and elegance to the sight and touch.

An ecosystem of pieces that revolves around the table and the living room, for moments of conviviality navigating from inside to outside. Versatile furniture, adjusting the decor to the rhythm of the seasons, the weather and the mood of the moment.

The choice of chestnut marks a dedication to sustainability ahead of its time. In the world of outdoor furniture, for reasons of cost and ease, exotic woods such as teak and rosewood dominate.

For KER, the choice of chestnut was obvious, in line with increased awareness of sustainability and the need to carefully manage forests.

The chestnut tree at the heart of KER's collections is of the highest quality and comes exclusively from plantations with controlled regrowth in compliance with strict reforestation processes. Due to its excellent properties of resistance and beauty, it is an ideal high-end material for the manufacture of outdoor furniture, continually exposed to temperature changes, water, humidity and salinity. A solid wood which is characterized by its warm, authentic and natural appearance as well as its superb veined appearance, a particularity which accentuates the lively and authentic character of the piece.
